Red Stars Gain First Win Over Defending WPS Champ

With the help of a Daphne Koster own goal in the 47th minute, the host Chicago Red Stars earned their first Women's Professional Soccer victory in history over the now-defending league champion Sky Blue FC in a 2-0 win Saturday at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.

Ella Masur gave Chicago the game-winning goal in the 38th minute off a Natalie Spilger assist.

The Red Stars are 4-5-5 with 17 points and tied with the Washington Freedom (4-3-5) for fourth place and travel to the Atlanta Beat July 21.

Sky Blue is 5-5-3 with 18 points and are in third place. They will host the Beat next Sunday at Yurcak Field at Rutgers University.
