Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls will introduce the franchise's third Designated Player on their roster at a press conference Tuesday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.
The team, as per the league's new Collective Bargaining Agreement, had to pay the league $250,000 to buy an additional DP slot, as each franchise is allowed two such players, who can be paid above the team salary cap with the league picking up the rest of the cost over the cap.
This player will join current stars Juan Pablo Angel and newcomer Thierry Henry under that status.
Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe told reporters last week a player they were pursuing already has agreed to a contract offer, but now needs to sign the contract.
Backe also said the player would line up at the botton of a diamond-shaped midfield.
