Philadelphia Independence forward Amy Rodriguez, the number one overall pick in Women's Professional Soccer's 2009 draft, was named the league's Player of the Month for July Thursday.
She had five goals, including two in a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Washington Freedom June 26, as well as two asssts in the month. For the season, she has seven goals and three assists.
Rodriguez also had a goal and an assist over Marta XI in a 5-2 victory over Abby XI in the league's annual All-Star Game last Wednesday in Kennesaw, GA.
Rodriguez is the second Philadelphia player to earn Player of the Month honors -- midfielder Lori Lindsey won the award for April.
