New W-League Champs To Be Crowned As Pali Ends 2-Year-Run In Playoffs

A new champion will be crowned in the USL W-League when they hold their Championship Weekend this coming week at Harry Welch Stadium in Santa Clarita, CA as the two-time league champion Pali Blues turned over the 2010 Western Conference Championship to the Vancouver Whitecaps, who beat them 2-0 for the title Saturday at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Melissa Tancredi led the Whitecaps to victory on a 35th minute goal off a Robin Gayle assist and an assist on Amy Vermuelen's 41st minute game-winning shot.

Pali's lone goal came in the 61st minute when Sara Gama headed a corner kick from Julie Bukh in the 61st minute.

The Whitecaps now move to the 2010 W-League Championship Final Four this Thursday when they face the two-time regular season champion Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues in a semifinal game.

That winner will face the winner of the other semifinal -- the Atlanta Blackhawks facing either the Buffalo Flash or the Ottawa Fury, teams playing Sunday for the Eastern Conference Championship -- for the league championship this Saturday. The losers will meet in a consolation game earlier Saturday.
