After outbidding five other cities for the honor, United Soccer Leagues announced Friday the 2009 Premier Development League Western Conference Champion Kitsap Pumas will host the 2010 Western Conference Playoff Tournament July 29-August 1 at Bremerton High School in Bremerton, WA.
The tournament opens July 31 with the Northwest Division champion Portland Timbers U23s, who finished the regular season undefeated at 16-0-0 with 48 points, facing the second place team in the conference's Southwest Division, followed by the Pumas, the second seed in the Northwest at 11-2-2 with 35 points, taking on the Southwest Division champion.
The semifinal winners meet August 1 for the conference title and a berth in the USL PDL Championship Weekend at a date and location to be announced.
Three teams are vying for those two playoff spots -- the defending league champion Ventura County Fusion (10-4-1) and the Orange County Blue Star (9-3-4), currently tied for first place at 31 points, and the Hollywood United Hitmen (9-3-3, 30), who are in third place.
The 2010 season has ended for the Blue Star, but not for the other two teams.
The Hitmen will be in action Friday when they host the Ogden Outlaws at Palisades High School, while the Fusion host the Los Angeles Legends at Buena High School Saturday night.
