Henry Officially Joins New York Red Bulls

As expected, Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls announced Wednesday the potential signing to a multi-year contract of French midfielder Thierry Henry Thursday and said he will make his debut with them July 22 during an exhibition game at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ against Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League.

He joins Juan Pablo Angel as the team's Designated Player after becoming a free agent following Henry's release from Barcelona in Spain's La Liga with a year remaining on his contract after scoring four goals last season. Henry ends his career there having scored 49 goals.

Henry is France's all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in 123 appearances and scored a club-record 226 goals in 370 games for Arsenal of the EPL, where he led the league in goals scored four times.

He led France to the 1998 FIFA World Cup title, the 2000 Euro Championship and the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup.

A two-time European Golden Boot winner in 2004 and 2005, Henry began his career at Monaco in 1994, where he played four seasons before spending a year in Italy with Juventus in Serie A, then joining Arsenal in 2000, where he led them to EPL titles in 2000 and 2004, before leaving in 2007 for Barcelona.

His best season in Barcelona was 2009, when the team won six championship titles -- Champions League, La Liga, Copa del Rey, Spanish Supercup, UEFA Supercup and FIFA Club World Cup.
