The defending USL Premier Development League champion Ventura County Fusion scored two goals on the road in the first 15 minutes of their 2-1 victory over the BYU Cougars Saturday at South Field in Provo, UT.
Sam Myerson was assisted by Sung-Yun Kim in the ninth minute and Jacob Hustedt added an unassisted goal in the 12th minute for the Fusion's points, which held up against BYU's lone goal, a 67th minute pass from Doug Clark to Matt Rider.
The Fusion hold third place in the Western Conference - Southwest Division at 8-4-1 with 25 points, two points behind the Hollywood United Hitmen (8-2-2, 26) for second place and six behind the Orange County Blue Star (9-2-2,30) for the division lead. Ventura County will host the Lancaster Rattlers this Friday.
BYU is 3-9-2 with 11 points and is in eighth place in the conference standings. They travel next Saturday to face the Ogden Outlaws.
