Donovan Leads Galaxy Over United In MLS Battle Of Best, Worst

Landon Donovan made a game-winning penalty kick in the 58th minute as the best team in Major League Soccer, the Los Angeles Galaxy, edged the league's worst team in host DC United 2-1 Sunday at RFK Stadium.

Edson Buddle opened the game for Los Angeles with his league-leading 11th goal of the year in the 38th minute for the eventual halftime lead.

Andy Najar scored United's lone goal off a Pablo Hernandez assist in the 54th minute to tie the game at 1-all.

The Galaxy lead the league and the Western Conference at 12-2-3 with 39 points and will host the San Jose Earthquakes Thursday at The Home Depot Center.

DC is in last place in the Eastern Conference and the league at 3-11-3 with 12 points. They will next face the defending league champion Real Salt Lake in Sandy, UT July 31.
