US Men's National Team forward Charlie Davies, who has been working his way to possibly being named a member of his country's team to compete in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in South Africa after suffering major injuries in an October 2009 car crash, Wednesday blasted the president of Sochaux in France's Ligue 1, Alexandre Lacombe, for sending a letter to the US Soccer Federation where they denied him medical clearance to attend training camp.
Davies told RMC radio in France he was never made aware of the note until he spoke with USMNT head coach Bob Bradley, who told him he was not being considered for a spot on the team, and that he never spoke with Lacombe before the letter was sent.
Davies suffered a broken left elbow, broken left finger, tibia and fibula; a broken nose, injured forehead, broken eye socket, a ruptured bladder and bleeding on his brain following an Octobe 2009 car accident in Virginia, hours before the US was to play in a CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying game in Washington, DC.
A female passenger in the vehicle was killed in the crash.
