Jordie Hughes had a hat trick and brother Tyler Hughes added a goal, along with Jamar Dixon, as the host Victoria Highlanders blasted the Abbotsford Mariners 5-1 in United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League play from Bear Mountain Stadium in Victoria, British Columbia.
The Highlanders, at 4-0-0 and 12 points, are tied for the lead in the Western Conference, Northwest Division with the Kitsap Pumas, who share an identical record. They will next face the Portland Timbers U-23s on the road Saturday.
Abbotsford is 0-1-1 with a point and are tied for fourth place in the division with the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency and travel to the Pumas this Saturday.
