Wizards Ink Midfielding Trio To Contracts

Major League Soccer's Kansas City Wizards announced Monday the signings of three defenders -- Ryan Smith, Igor Kostrov and Craig Rocastle.

Smith started his career in the youth system of England's Arsenal, joining the senior team at age 16 at the Carling Cup.

In 2005, he scored one goal over 15 appearances at Leicester City, then joined Derby County in the 2006-07 season before being loaned to Milwall, where he later signed a deal in 2007 and stayed two seasons.

He also signed short-term contracts to play at Southampton and Crystal Palace and scored three goals over nine preseason games with the Wizards.

Kostrov scored seven goals in 65 games with Dinamo Bender of the Divizia Napionola in Moldova before moving to Israel in the 2008-09 midseason, later to be loaned in 2009 by Maccabi Herzliya.

He also played in all nine Wizards preseason games.

Rocastle has extensive experience in English soccer, as well as in Greece with Thrasivoulos Fills in the Greek Super League. He most recently suited up for Forest Green Rovers of the English Conference.
