The Milwaukee Wave officialy became the 2009-10 regular season champion of the revived Major Indoor Soccer League Sunday with a 17-12 victory over La Raza de Monterrey at US Cellular Arena.
The Wave are 12-6, are on a six-game winning streak and end their home schedule this weekend with a two-game series against the Philadelphia Kixx.
The first game Wednesday, to take place as a School Day special at 10:30 a.m., was originally set for February 6 in Philadelphia but was cancelled due to a major snowstorm, but was moved to Milwaukee when the Kixx could not reschedule the game at Temple University's Liacouras Center.
The School Day game in Milwaukee was already set to be an intrasquad scrimmage, but worked out well for both teams, as the Wave were scheduled to end their home season this Saturday against the Kixx.
Monterrey fell to 9-10, have lost their last five road games, and will end their season at home next Sunday against the last place Rockford Rampage.
By winning the regular season championship, the Wave will now host the MISL Championship Game presented by The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel April 4 at US Cellular Arena.
The second and third place teams in the league stadings -- looking now to be the Baltimore Blast and the Kixx -- will meet in a two-game, aggregate-goal series to determine the Wave's opponent in the title game.
