Ian Bennett and Josh Rife scored five points each Wednesday as the Major Indoor Soccer League regular season champion Milwaukee Wave edged the Philadelphia Kixx 14-12 in a retooled School Day game at US Cellular Arena in Milwaukee.
The Wave were scheduled to hold an intrasquad game for school children in the area, but the game was revamped after a major winter snowstorm forced an original February 6 game in Philadelphia to be moved to Milwaukee when Kixx officials were unable to reschedule the game at their home arena.
The game became the first of back-to-back games with Philadelphia with the second game set for Saturday.
Milwaukee, who improved to 13-6 on the season and now boast the second-longest winning streak in team history at seven games. Their previous longest winning streak was eight to open the 2005-06 MISL season.
The Wave also eliminated the Kixx (7-11) from the league playoff picture and set up the final schedule.
By way of winning the regular season championship, the Wave will host the 2010 MISL Championship Game presented by The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel April 4 at US Cellular Arena.
The Wave will meet the winner of a two-game, aggregate-goal semifinal series between the second place Baltimore Blast and the third place La Raza de Monterrey for the title, with that series taking place March 26 and 28.
