United Signs Honduran Native, Cut DiRaimondo

Major League Soccer's DC United announced the signing Monday of midfielder/forward Andy Najar and the release of midfielder John DiRaimondo.

Najar, 17 and a native of Honduras who has his green card, played in five of the team's preseason games this season and scored four goals on United's U-16 team then scored nine more with the U-18 team as a forward.

In 2008 at Edison High School in Alexandria, LA, he scored 22 goals that season.

Najar becomes the second player the team has signed from their DC United Academy, following goalkeeper Bill Hamid, who joined in September 2009.

DiRaimondo appeared in one MLS game and eight overall matches last season.
