The Portland Timbers, playing in the 2010 USSF Division II Pro League before possibly joining Major League Soccer for the 2011 season, announced Wednesday they will host Puntarenas FC of Costa Rica's Primera Division May 1 at 7 p.m. local time at PGE Park.
Puntarenas FC, despite being founded in 2004, has earned a reputation for winning, reaching the semifinal round in five of the last nine touraments held, including making the finals of the 2009-10 Apertura season..
Currently tied for second in the league's Group B stadings with a 3-0-1 record, Puntarenas also took part in the 2006-07 CONCACAF Champions League tournament.
