Sounders Release G Chris Eylander

Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders released backup goalkeeper Chris Eylander, who led the team to a championship in the United Soccer Leagues First Division but served behind starter Kasey Keller, Monday.

Eylander made one appearance for the Sounders since being signed January 6, 2009 -- he started in place of Keller in a 2-0 loss to Chivas USA. He also played for Seattle in a 4-1 victory over defending league champion Real Salt Lake in a play-in game for the 2009 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.

Hampered by injuries, he was kept on the disabled list for much of the year and eventually lost his backup job to Terry Boss.
