Major League Soccer's New England Revolution announced the signing of midfielder Martin Perovic Friday on a free transfer from FC Basel of the Swiss League, the return of midfielder Khano Smith in a Revs uniform, and the release of defender Gabriel Badilla.
Perovic fell out of favor with manager Thorsten Fink earlier this season with the franchise and also has played for Red Star Belgrade in his native Croatia.
Smith left the Revolution in 2008 when he was chosen by the Seattle Sounders in the MLS Expansion Draft but was later traded to the New York Red Bulls, who cut him halfway through the season.
He later signed a short-term deal with Lincoln City of the English League 2, but that deal expired in January.
Badilla missed the entire 2009 season with New England due to a back injury and only appeared in six games over the last two years.
