The Chicago Red Stars of Women's Professional Soccer announced the signing Friday of defender Whitney Ergen, the fourth overall pick in the 2010 league draft.
Ergen played four seasons at North Carolina -- her first two as a forward before switching to defender for the final two seasons.
Also, the team released midfielder Chioma Igwe and forward Becky Ryan.
