Premier Arena Soccer League Winter Tournament Happens In Vegas This Weekend

The Premier Arena Soccer League, the development level of the Professional Arena Soccer League, will hold their seventh annual Winter Championship tournament Friday and Saturday at Las Vegas Indoor Soccer as 12 of the best teams in the 43-team league vie for the title.

The tournament format has four groups of three teams competing Friday in a round-robin format with the top team in each group moving on to the semifinals Saturday and the remaining two teams playing an elimination game Friday.

Those winners move into the quarterfinals, followed by the semis and final, all on Saturday.

Here are the members of each group and how they made it to the tournament:

GROUP A

Detroit Waza Premier - Won the Great Lakes Division with a 6-0 record; were the 2007-08 Winter Champions in Fredericksburg.

Las Vegas Knights - Automatically entered as the host team; finished second in Southwest Division at 6-2, one game behind the San Diego Fusion

Fort Collins Fury - Made up of players from defunct Colorado Lightning franchise in PASL-Pro, they finished 4-2-2 and won two playoff games to advance from Rocky Mountain Division

GROUP B

San Diego Fusion - Won Southwest Division with 7-1 record; are the developmental team of the PASL-Pro's San Diego Sockers, who will host their championship tournament soon

Alamo City Warriors - Finished second in the South Central Division at 6-1-1; lost in last year's tournament semifinals as Alamo SC

Fredericksburg Generals - Hosted 2007-08 Winter tournament; won a divisional playoff in Winchester

GROUP C

Tacoma Stars - Won Northwest Division with 6-1-1 record; lost in semifinals last year

OTW Santa Clara - Finished 6-1-1 in Pacific Division; is a three-time Summer Championships winner, but has never won Winter crown

Arizona Heat - Finished 4-2-2 in Southwest Division and is only team to beat the Fusion this season

GROUP D

Vitresse Dallas - Defending tournament champion; ended regular season with eight-game winning streak to win South Central Division title

Kansas City Kings - Runner-up to Vitresse in last year's final; finished this season 5-2-1

Los Angeles Bolts - Pulled off late season rally to qualify for the tournament.
