For their 14th season as a franchise in United Soccer Leagues and their eighth in the Premier Development League, Ocean City, NJ's franchise has been re-named Ocean City FC Nor'Easters, according to an announcement Thursday on a local TV station.
The team, formerly called the Ocean City Barons, recently ended their relationship with the South Jersey Barons youth academy and held a Name The Team contest to come up with a new identity.
Matt Jernee of Absecon, NJ was the winner of the contest.
The Nor'Easters, named for a strong winter weather pattern which normally brings much snow with it, as several did this winter, will also adopt the team colors of their affiliate, Reading FC of the English Championship -- blue and white.
