Rookie Alvaro Saborio scored the lone goal in the 56th minute as the defending Major League Soccer champion Real Salt Lake shut out Toronto FC 1-0 in the final night of the 2010 Carolina Challenge Cup at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC.
RSL finished the four-team round-robin tournament, which also featured DC United of MLS and the host, the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer Leagues Second Division, with a 2-1-0 record and six points for second place behind United, who won the title in a 2-0 victory over the Battery, who have never won the event they host in its now seven-year history.
Salt Lake opens defense of its title next Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium at the University of Santa Clara while Toronto travels to Columbus that day to play the Crew.
