Members of Major League Soccer and its Players Union met for two days Tuesday and Wednesday in Washington, DC to attempt to come to an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement but, while no deal was signed, both sides agreed to continue meeting with arbitrator George H. Cohen of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service at a later date.
The league and its players have been working under the terms of an old CBA that was created in 2005 and expired January 31, 2009. Due to weather delays holding up talks, the original deal was extended twice -- to February 11, then to February 25.
MLS commissioner Don Garber has most recently said he'd rather work under the terms of an expired CBA than to have players walk out or be locked out and ruin the 2010 season.
