The defending Major League Soccer champion Real Salt Lake announced Thursday they have signed goalkeeper Tim Melia and defender Chris Schuler to developmental contracts and cut defender/midfielder Raphael Cox.
Melia played the last two seasons with the Rochester Rhinos in the United Soccer Leagues First Division. The Rhinos now play in the USSF Division II Pro League.
In 2009, he had a 6-3-7 record with the team, a goals against average of 0.97, and he led te RailHawks to the semifinals of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament.
Schuler, a three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team selection, started all four collegiate seasons at Creighton University and was selected by RSL in the third round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.
Cox started two of six games last season and scored his only career goal July 18, 2009 in a 3-1 loss to the Columbua Crew in MLS play.
