Speaking with The Associated Press after appearing at the annual SoccerEx convention in Manchester, England Tuesday, Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber reiterated his hope that, while the league and the MLS Players Union continue to work toward establishing a new collective bargaining agreement to replace one that has expired, no work stoppage affects plans to start the 2010 MLS season on time March 25.
The current CBA, which was signed in 2005 and expired January 31, 2010, was twice extended, first until February 12, then to February 25, while negotiations went on in good faith but were delayed due to severe winter weather in the Northeast region of the country.
"We will not lock (players) out, and we are confident they will not go on strike," Garber said.
