Fire Waives Goalkeeper Jon Busch

The man who played every game in goal the last two seasons for Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire won't do so this coming season as the franchise waived goalkeeper Jon Busch Monday.

Busch joined the team in March 2007 and went 31-25-23 with 27 shutouts in 79 total competitions in three seasons and was the MLS Goalkeeper Of The Year in 2008.

He also led the Fire to back-to-back appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals and to the 2009 SuperLiga title.

Busch began his professional soccer career in the United States Interregional Soccer League in 1997 after going undrafted by MLS. He would play for the Carolina Dynamo, Worcester Wildfire, Hampton Roads Mariners and the Hershey Wildcats, who he led to the championship game of the A-League (then USISL, now United Soccer Leagues First Division) and was the 2001 Goalkeeper of the Year.

He joined MLS the next season with the Columbus Crew, who he led to the 2002 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup title over the Los Angeles Galaxy.

In 147 career games with both teams, Busch was 60-43-42. He finished in the top 10 in all major league goalkeeping categories. He is first in all-time save percentage at 75.9% and fifth all-time in career goals against average at 1.20.
