Earthquakes Sign Former Fire Goalie Jon Busch

After being surprisingly cut prior to the start of the 2010 Major League Soccer season, 2008 league Goalkeeper of the Year Jon Busch found a new home Tuesday with the San Jose Earthquakes.

Busch played the last four seasons, including every minute of every game in the 2008 and 2009 seasons, for the Chicago Fire and had 21 shutouts in 63 career appearances with that team.

Busch won the 2008 honor, as well as the Fire's Most Valuable Player award, after earning a team-record-tying 10 shutouts that season.

He led the University of North Carolina-Charlotte to the semifinals of the 1996 NCAA Men's College Cup tournament over his four seasons there before playing in the A-League (formerly United Soccer Leagues First Division), where he was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Year and a First Team league selection in 2001.

In 2002, he moved to MLS with the Chicago Fire and started 83 of 84 career games, won 25 games and had 25 shutouts.

His current career record in MLS is 60-43-42 with 46 shutouts.

Busch also played once for the US Men's National Team in 2005 in a 3-0 victory over Colombia. He dressed for a 2009 game with Sweden but was never used.
