Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes capitalized on a eighth minute and Arturo Alvarez fed a pass to Ryan Johnson in the 50th minute as they defeated West Ham of the English Premier League 2-0 in an exhibition game Monday at Upton Park in London.
The game is the first of three to be played while the team is in the United Kingdom on a training stint.
The final two games will be Wednesday and Friday at Spurs Lodge, home to Tottenham Hotspur, who San Jose plays Wednesday. Friday, MLS' Colorado Rapids will play San Jose there.
