Major League Soccer's DC United officially released former US Olympic team and US U-20 midfielder Danny Szetala Friday.
The league allocated him to United in July after playing for Brescia in Italy's Serie B.
Szetala, who previously played in MLS with the Columbus Crew, tore his the meniscus in his right knee on the second day of preseason training this year. He made only nine appearances last season for DC.
United officials said his high salary and lackluster play were the main reasons for his release.
