Forward David Beckham of Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy and AC Milan of Italy's Serie A tore his left Achilles tendon in the final minutes of Sunday's 1-0 win over Chievo Verona in Italy and will miss out on playing for England in the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well as playing for the Galaxy, should MLS even have a 2010 season, if the MLS Players Union follows through on plans to strike over not having a new collective bargaining agreement.
AC Milan's team physician said Sunday Beckham will fly Monday to Finland to undergo surgery either that afternoon or on Tuesday.
England will open World Cup play June 12 in Rustenburg, South Africa against the US Men's National Team.
