Union Gains Orozco On Loan Via Trade With Red Bulls

The expansion Philadelphia Union acquired former US U-23 National Team and current US Men's senior National Team defender Michael Orozco on loan from San Luis FC of Mexico's First Division after completing a Major League Soccer trade with the New York Red Bulls Friday.

The Union gave the Red Bulls allocation money in return for New York's slot as the top team on the league's allocation order to gain Orozco.

The allocation order list allows MLS teams a fair chance at gaining USMNT members who return to the States after playing overseas. With the Union taking Orozco, they now drop to the back order and the San Jose Earthquakes will acquire the next available USMNT player.

Orozco, who led the US U-23 team to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and played twice for the senior team, has been with San Luis for three seasons, but has fallen out of favor with their coaching staff.

At the Union, Orozco will be reunited with U-23 teammate Chris Seitz.
