Earthquakes Could Sign Brazil's Eduardo Soon

Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes could soon sign Brazilian forward/midfielder Eduardo, born Eduardo Adelino de Silva, to a contract, according to Monday's San Jose Mercury News.

Eduardo, who will beging practicing with the team when preseason camp opens Monday at Oakland Coliseum, was a trialist at the end of last season.

He became available after his last club, FC Basel in the Swiss Super League, changed head coaches and failed to renew his contract after four seasons, in which he led them to a pair of Swiss League and Swiss Cup titles. In 96 games over that time, he had 17 goals.

Before joining Basel, he had eight goals in 57 appearances for France's FC Toulouse.

He also played for Belgium's R. Charleroi and Rio de Janeiro's Vasco de Gama.
