MLS Hits Mastroeni With Three-Game Suspension, $1,500 Fine

Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee issued a three-game suspension and a $1,500 fine Thursday to Colorado Rapids midfielder Pablo Mastroeni Thursday following an incident in the 63rd minute of a game Sunday with the Houston Dynamo in which Houston defender Andrew Hainault was seriously injured.

Mastroeni picked up a yellow card during the game, which automatically carried a one-game suspension and a $250 fine for reaching his fifth warning of the season, but the committee felt his "reckless and egregious" acts on the field warranted the additional two-game suspension and $1,250 fine.

He will now miss both ends of an upcoming two-game, home-and-home series with Toronto FC -- this Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park and next Saturday at BMO Field -- as well as a road game against the San Jose Earthquakes September 18.
