DC United Signs First Youth Academy Player To Deal

Major League Soccer's DC United announced the signing Wednesday to the senior team of goalkeeper Abdul "Bill" Hamed to a Generation adidas contract, the first player ever to join the franchise straight from their DC United Youth Academy.

Hamed has been with youth system since January 2007 and led the team that year that won the U17 Major League Soccer/Soccer United Marketing Cup.

In 2008, he was a member of the team that competed in the U17 Club World Cup in Madrid, Spain and was named by the US Soccer Development Academy's U-17/18 Mid-Atlantic Starting XI.

This summer, he led his academy team to a 20-4-5 record and was a finalist in the USSDA tournament.

Hamed has also played on the US U18 and U20 Men's National Teams.
