As expected, Major League Soccer's Kansas City Wizards announced Tuesday technical director Peter Vermes will add interim head coach to his duties with the franchise for the remainder of the season and a search for a new head coach will take place after the current season.
Vermes replaces Curt Onalfo, who was fired Monday, 72 hours after the Wizards suffered the second-worst loss in team history, a 6-0 rout by FC Dallas.
The Wizards also named veteran player and coach Zoran Savic as Vermes' assistant coach, replacing Kris Kelderman, also fired Monday.
Savic was head coach of the Kansas City Comets in the Major Indoor Soccer League and previously served as an assistant coach in MLS with Chivas USA.
Kansas City is off this weekend and resumes play August 16 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark when they host the Chicago Fire.
