United Soccer Leagues Tuesday announced the 2009 All-League Team for the Premier Development League, as well as named the finalists for key postseason honors -- Defender of the Year, U-19 Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Most Valuable Player. The winners of those four awards will be named Thursday.
Here are the members of the 2009 USL Premier Development League All-League Team:
2009 USL PREMIER DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE ALL-LEAGUE TEAM
GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR
James Maurer, Chicago Fire
- Led team to second place finish in Central Conference, Great Lakes Division at 10-1-5
- Was 10-1-3 with seven shutouts; tied for third in league in wins, second in shutouts
- Second-best goals against average at 0.642
- Fire allowed 12 goals in 16 games, second-lowest total in league
DEFENDERS
Christian Ibeagha, Cary Clarets
- Led expansion team to 9-4-3 record, third place in Central Conference, Midwest Division
- Played 13 games this season for team that allowed 16 goals
Bonivenger Misiko, Fort Wayne Fever
- Scored two goals over all 16 games played this season
Daniel Scott, Seattle Wolves
- Played in 13 games for expansion franchise that finished 10-3-3 for third place in the Western Conference, Northwest Division
Chris Williams, New Orleans Jesters
- Tied for the team lead in minutes played at 1,350 over 15 games
MIDFIELDERS
Will Beague, Ottawa Fury
- Only Fury player named to All-League Team in 2009
- Scored 10 goals and six assists in 15 games to finish seventh in points, tied for tenth in goals and tied for fourth in assists
- Led Fury to unbeaten season at 12-0-4 and team was a point shy of winning regular season title
Dave Hertel, Michigan Bucks
- Scored eight goals and two assists this season
Armando Ochoa, Hollywood United Hitmen
- Scored four goals and three assists in 14 games for expansion team
- Led them to 10-3-3 record and first place finish in Western Conference, Southwest Division
FORWARDS
Tom Oatley, Kalamazoo Outrage
- Scored 14 goals and four assists in 15 games, ranking third in the league in points and tied for third in goals
- Led team to Central Conference, Great Lakes Division title with an 11-2-3 record
Debola Ogunseye, Mississippi Brilla
- Scored 14 goals and two assists in debut season in PDL, ranking fourth in the league in points and tied for third in goals
Aaron Wheeler, Reading Rage
- 2009 Goal Scoring (17) and Scoring Champion (37)
- Led Rage to regular season championship with a 13-1-1 record
- Also had three assists
