Johan Claesson fed a pass to Ryan Pore for a goal in the 30th minute as the Portland Timbers won their United Soccer Leagues First Division record-increasing 19th straight game with a 1-0 victory over the defending league champion Vancouver Whitecaps Thursday at Portland's PGE Park.
The Timbers also claimed the 2009 Concordia Cup with the victory in the series and, at 10-1-9 with 39 points, are tied for the lead in the league standings with the Carolina RailHawks (12-5-3).
Vancouver is 7-8-4 with 25 points, identical with the Miami FC Blues for sixth place.
Both teams host the Charleston Battery in their next game -- Vancouver first Friday, then Portland Saturday.
