Itamar Batista scored a goal in the 43rd minute of regulation play but scored the most important goal of the night as the game-winner in penalty kicks as Tigres UANL of Mexico's Primera Division won the 2009 SuperLiga tournament Wednesday over the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL, 4-3, after a 1-1 regulation draw.
It was the third time in as many editions of this tournament between MLS and the Primera Division a championship game was decided in penalty kicks and the second time Mexico has taken the crown, following Pachuca in the inaugural event in 2007.
In the 2008 tournament, the New England Revolution defeated the Houston Dynamo in an all-MLS final.
Patrick Nyarko scored the opening and eventual only goal for Chicago.
