Saprissa Comes From Behind To Beat Islanders In CCL Group Play

Armando Alonso assisted on Jairo Arrieta's 35th minute game-tying goal, then later was helped by Andre Nunez on a 49th minute play as Costa Rica's Deportivo Saprissa came from behind to defeat the Puerto Rico Islanders of the United Soccer Leagues' First Division, 3-1, Tuesday in San Jose, Costa Rica in the second game of Group C play at the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League.

Walter Centeno scored for Saprissa unassisted in the 40th minute as the team is now 1-1-0 in group play with three points and are tied for the lead in their standings with Cruz Azul of Mexico and the defending Major League Soccer champion Columbus Crew, who play each other at Mexico City Wednesday. Saprissa will host the Crew September 16.

Dominic Mediate scored the Islanders' lone goal in the 26th minute to take the early lead.

Puerto Rico, a semifinalist in the first season of the Champions League, is now 0-2-0 and in last place. They will host Cruz Azul at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon, Puerto Rico September 15.
