Ricardo Sanchez's last-minute penalty kick was enough for the host Minnesota Thunder to play to a 1-1 draw in United Soccer Leagues First Division play Saturday at the National Soccer Center in Blaine, MN.
The Thunder are 3-9-6 with 15 points and in ninth place in the league's single standings table. They are on the road for their next two games -- at the Montreal Impact next Sunday and at the Miami FC Blues August 14.
David Hayes assisted Ryan Pore on Portland's only and opening goal in the 55th minute. The Timbers are 9-1-9 with 36 points and are tied with the Carolina RailHawks (11-5-3) for second place in the standings. They will host the defending league champion Vancouver Whitecaps this Thursday, followed by the Charleston Battery next Saturday.
