Rhinos Beef Up Roster With Velten, Nunes

The Rochester Rhinos of the United Soccer Leagues First Division announced the signings Friday of former Harrisburg City Islanders defender Tim Velten and veteran USL star midfielder Amaury Nunes to contracts in advance of a roster freeze deadline.

An eighth-round supplemental draft pick by the Baltimore Blast in the Major Indoor Soccer League in 2007 but never signed with them, Velten led the City Islanders to their first USL2 championship title in 2007. He would then play 31 games in 2008 for the USL1 Charleston Battery before playing 20 more this season for the City Islanders.

Nunes, a member of the 2009 USL2 All-League Second Team, had nine goals and two assists for 20 points in 12 games.

In 2008, he had eight goals and two assists in eight games for the USL's Premier Development League's Fresno Fuego before being sidelined with a knee injury. He also had eight goals in 2005 and 2007 with the team.
