The defending United Soccer Leagues First Division champion Vancouver Whitecaps announced the signings of three players to their Premier Development League team, the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency, for the rest of the 2009 season with an option for the 2010 season.
Midfielder Nizar Khalfan recently played for Moro United in Tanzania's Premier League and played in the 2007-08 season for Al Tadamon of Kuwait's Premier League.
Defender Michael Ndubuisi Onwatuegwa, who just goes by Michael, spent the last three seasons with Persiba Bantul in Indonesia's Premier League.
Finally, defender Nadir Haroub was loaned to the Whitecaps Residency from Young Africans FC, where he has been the last three seasons. Prior to that, he played one season in Zanzibar's top league.
To make room for the new acquisitions on the Residency roster, defenders Paul Hamilton and Navid Mashinchi were released.
