Defender Ivan Becarra, who scored the go-ahead goal in the Ventura County Fusion's first United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League championship season in the final game against the Chicago Fire Reserves, signed a deal Friday to join the USL First Division-leading Portland Timbers.
Before joining the Fusion, Becarra, then a forward, was selected 27th overall by the Columbus Crew in the 2006 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft. He would play six games for the Crew in the former MLS Reserve Divsion and was loaned to the USL Second Division's Cincinnati Kings.
