Osorio Resigns As Red Bulls Head Coach; Williams In Charge Again

New York Red Bulls head coach Juan Carlos Osorio announced his immediate resignation Friday with the Major League Soccer franchise and team officials named assistant coach Richie Williams to serve again as interin head coach through the end of the season.

Williams went 4-3-2 in his last interim stint -- from June 27 to August 12, 2006 following the firing of Mo Johnston, now head coach at Toronto FC.

Red Bulls officials said a search for a new head coach has immediately begun.

Osorio joined the Red Bulls as head coach December 18, 2007 after resigning from a similar position with the Chicago Fire. In two seasons, the Red Bulls went 12-27-13 under his watch, but won the 2008 Western Conference Championship title and played against the current champion Columbus Crew in the MLS Cup final.
