Christian Gomez assisted Bryan Namoff in the 41st minute on DC United's first goal in a Major League Soccer game since August 1 in a 1-0 victory Saturday over the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.
The United, who have been shut out in their last two games, has a busy week upcoming. Wednesday, they will host MLS' Seattle Sounders in the championship game of the 2009 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament, then return to league play next Saturday against FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, TX next Saturday.
DC is now 7-5-11 with 32 points and in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings, one point behind the New England Revolution (9-6-6, 33) for third place. They are also six points behind the Fire (10-6-8, 38) for second and seven behind the defending league champion Columbus Crew (10-3-9, 39) for first place.
Chicago is in second place in the Eastern table, a point behind the Crew, who the Fire hosts September 20. The Fire first has some time off to enjoy before traveling to Real Salt Lake September 12.
