Iris Mora was named Most Valuable Player of the 2009 United Soccer Leagues W-League Championship Friday at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, MD after scoring a goal and an assist as the Pali Blues successfully defended their league championship with a 2-1, come-from-behind win over the Washington Freedom.
Washington had the early lead in the 14th as Sandra Matute scored off a free kick caused following a yellow card penalty on Pali defender Kendall Billingsley for dragging down Washington's Katherine Wilson as she went for a loose ball.
Billingsley leveled the score at 1-1 in the 57th minute as Mora assisted, then Mora scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute to become a back-to-back league champion.
