MLS Disciplinary Committee Fines, Suspends Kreis; Punishes Ljungberg

Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee had a very busy Friday.

Real Salt Lake head coach Jason Kreis was fined $2,500 and suspended for one game following his ejection in the 73rd minute of their July 24 game versus FC Dallas after having a verbal confrontation with the officiating crew.

For receiving the red card, he automatically earned a $500 fine and one-game suspension, but, as the committee has the authority to do, increased the fine and suspension due to the nature of Kreis' aggressiveness in the incident.

Kreis can not be on the field to watch Saturday's game against the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park or next Saturday's home game at Rio Tinto Stadium against the Seattle Sounders, but can watch the game from either the stands or a private box.

Meanwhile, the committee handed down a $500 fine to Sounders midfielder Freddie Ljungberg for not leaving the field of play in a timely and orderly manner after being ejected in the 59th minute of a July 25 game against the Fire. Due to the ejection, he is automatically ineligible to play in Sunday's road game at the San Jose Earthquakes.
