Who needs David Beckham anyway?
Suspended following being ejected in last Saturday's game at home against the Seattle Sounders, Mike Magee stepped up and scored a game-winning goal with an assist from Jovan Kirovski in the 23rd minute and helped Landon Donovan with an insurance goal in the 54th minute as the Los Angeles Galaxy shut out the Chicago Fire, 2-0, Wednesday in Major League Soccer play at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.
Magee's assist was his team-leading sixth of the year and the goal was his second of the season as the Galaxy lept over the Sounders into second place in the Western Conference standings at 8-4-10 with 34 points, five points behind the Houston Dynamo (11-6-6, 39).
Donovan had his 10th goal of the season, tying him for second in the Budweiser Golden Boot race with Guillermo Barros Schelotto of the defending champion Columbus Crew and Fredy Montero of the Sounders.
Los Angeles further put out Chicago's flames by allowing them no shots on goal.
Despite the humiliating defeat, the Fire still hold on to second place in the Eastern Conference standings at 9-5-8 with 35 points, four behind the Crew (10-3-9, 39).
The Galaxy are at DC United this Saturday while the Fire host the Colorado Rapids next Sunday.
