Sacha Kljestan got assistance from Maykel Galindo and Jesse Marsch on a 32nd minute score, then was helped by Maicon Santos in the 61st as host Chivas USA shut out Toronto FC, 2-0, Saturday in Major League Soccer play at The Home Depot Center.
Chivas improved to 10-7-3 with 33 points and is in third place in the Western Conference standings, two points behind the Los Angeles Galaxy (8-4-11, 35), who played to a scoreless draw at DC United Saturday, and six points behind the conference-leading Houston Dynamo, who, at 11-6-6 with 39 points, has the league's best record.
Chivas plays two contests this week -- Wednesday at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT against Real Salt Lake and next Saturday against the Galaxy at THDC.
Toronto moves to 8-8-6 with 30 points and is third in the Eastern Conference standings, five points behind the Chicago Fire (9-5-8, 35), who host the Colorado Rapids Sunday, and nine points behind the defending league champion Columbus Crew (10-3-9, 39), who are idle under next Sunday, when they face the New York Red Bulls at Giants Stadium.
