Sandra Matute, Kika Toulouse and Caitlin Miskel scored shootout goals as the host Washington Freedom routed the Ottawa Fury, 3-1, in penalty kicks to win the United Soccer Leagues W-League's Eastern Conference Championship Saturday at Maryland Soccerplex in Boyds, MD.
The shootout was necessary after both teams played 90 minutes of regulation play and 30 minutes of overtime.
Hayley Moorwal scored the lone Fury shootout goal.
The Freedom will now face the two-time regular season and league Western Conference champion and defending national champion Pali Blues next Saturday.
