Jamie Lozano had a hat trick and assisted Marvin Nunez on a fourth minute shot as Mexico's Cruz Azul shut down Major League Soccer's defending league champion Columbus Crew, 5-0, in Group C play Wednesday in the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League tournament.
Nunez also scored on an unassisted goal five minutes after helping Lozano make his opening shot.
Columbus' Chad Marshall also unintentionally helped Cruz Azul's cause with an own goal.
Cruz Azul leads the group at 2-0-0 with six points while the Crew are 1-1-0 with three points and tied for second with Saprissa of Costa Rica, their next opponent, who they face on the road September 16.
Cruz Azul will travel to Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon, PR September 15 to face the Puerto Rico Islanders of the United Soccer Leagues First Division.
